Terminal Island (1973)

In the wake of a Supreme Court decision to outlaw the death penalty, California passes an initiative that designates San Bruno island as a dumping ground for first-degree murderers, free to do what they like except leave. The main camp is controlled by a tyrannical leader, who rules with an iron fist. When four female prisoners arrive on the island, they soon realize their only chance for survival is to fight back in an effort to set up a more democratic system.

Terminal Island (released under the title "Knuckle Men" in the U.K.) was directed by Stephanie Rothman and produced by Charles Swartz. It features early screen performances by Tom Selleck and Roger E. Mosley. Although an exploitation film, it has been treated with much serious discussion by critics and academics over the years. It is regarded as a cult film.
